In General

Asthma makes breathing difficult for millions of Americans, and its incidence is on the rise in both adults and children. Although the coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness associated with asthma attacks can be frustrating to deal with and at times, difficult to manage, it is important to not lose hope and to maintain a positive outlook.

Research related to asthma offers promising signs of improved therapies, management strategies, and an overall better understanding of the nature of asthma in the coming years.

Currently, considerable research is being conducted on asthma from a number of perspectives.

Some research is working to better identify the environmental factors that trigger asthma symptoms, as well as the genetic characteristics that cause people to be more susceptible to those triggers.

In addition, research is being conducted to test newer methods of treating asthma symptoms, and ways of preventing or delaying their onset.
